Petrochemicals Research and Innovation Commendation
In pursuance of the National Policy on Petrochemicals, the Department is implementing an Award Scheme to provide incentive for meritorious innovations & inventions in various fields of petrochemicals and downstream plastic processing industry and awards are being given under the scheme since 2010-11. So far these National Awards have been given for over eleven editions and the award ceremony for the 11th edition was held on 27th September, 2022 at New Delhi. Shri Bhagwanth Khuba, the Hon’ble Minister of State (MoS) for Chemicals & Fertilizers and New & Renewable Energy presented the awards to the awardees i.e. Researchers, Scientists, Professors and Industrialists, for their contributions in the field of Petrochemicals. The sum of Rs. 3 Lakhs each for Winners and 1 lakh each for runners-up was awarded.
The Scheme guidelines has been revised and now, the Government of India has decided to set up a “Petrochemicals Research & Innovation Commendation Scheme” in place of “National Petrochemicals Awards” to felicitate the meritorious innovations and inventions in the field of petrochemicals, products, processes and other areas of national and social importance. The Scheme will be implemented by the Department in coordination with the PSU or Autonomous Bodies of the Department.
The entry applications for Commendations will be screened and evaluated by the Screening Committee. The Screening Committee will be headed by Joint Secretary (Petrochemicals) with DG/Director of the implementing agency as Member Secretary. The Screening Committee will have representation from National Level Academic Institutions / Research Laboratories, National Level Industry Associations, Expert Committee and representatives from Government of India and the members will be nominated by the Department.
Evaluations report of the Screening Committee will be placed before the Commendation Approval Committee (CAC), which would be chaired by Secretary (Chemicals & Petrochemicals). The members of this Committee will be experts from Industry & Academia working in the petrochemicals and allied sectors. The names recommended by Screening Committee may be asked to present their innovation/project etc. before the Commendation Approval Committee. The CAC would then submit its recommendations on recipients for final approval of Minister (Chemicals & Fertilizers).
The Commendations, carrying a Citation & Memento, shall be conferred annually.
