Petrochemicals Division

The Petrochemical Division is one of important division of the Department, supervised by Shri Deepak Mishra, Joint Secretary. On account of the tasks and matters being handled by the division, it is divided into Petrochemical-I, Petrochemical-II, Petrochemical-III & Petrochemical-IV section.

Petrochemical-I section is supervised by Ms. Shalini Mahajan, Joint Director and assisted by Shri Satender Prasad, Under Secretary; Shri Sudhir Tivetia, Under Secretary and other officials and consultants.

Petrochemical-II section is supervised by Ms. Vandana, Director and assisted by other officials and Consultants.

Work Allocation to the Division

  • Matters related to the New Scheme of Petrochemicals, which includes initiatives such as National Awards, Plastic Parks, Centre of Excellence, and the Poly India project.
  • All activities related to the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) and Skill Development programs.
  • Issues pertaining to the Institute of Pesticide Formulation and Technology (IPFT), the erstwhile IPCL, and Petrofils Cooperative Limited.
  • Petrochemicals Perspective Plan, Disaster Management Plan, and Input-Output Norms. She is responsible for budget proposals, monitoring R&D recognition applications (referred by DST), and organizing seminars, meetings, and financial support initiatives.
  • Implementing the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, and overseeing Quality Control Orders and the Standardization Cell. They coordinate with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Department of Commerce and handle recommendations related to restricted or licensed articles from DGFT and the Textiles Advisory Council, as well as references regarding the Project Import Certificate.
  • Foreign Trade Policy, Free Trade Agreements, and the analysis of import-export data related to petrochemicals. They manage the creation of new HS codes and address issues related to import surges.
  • Additionally, they oversee the implementation of petrochemical policies, including Plastic Waste Management Rules, Extended Producer Responsibility, and new initiatives from the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC). Their work often involves collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
