Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) formerly known as Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) is an autonomous institute, set up in the year 1968 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
CIPET is an ISO certified institute having NABL & NABCB accredited laboratories, devoted to Skill Development, Technology support, Academic & Research (STAR) activities for the growth of Petrochemicals & allied industries in the country, functioning under the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.
Presently, CIPET has 45 centres spread across the country i.e. 08 Institute of Petrochemicals Technology (IPT); 31 Centres for Skilling & Technical Support (CSTS); 03 School for Advanced Research in Polymers (SARP), 03 Sub-Centres at Palakkad, Tamot & Paradip. 04 more CSTS centres are in the process of establishment.
CIPET has been expanding and diversifying its activities by establishment of centres in different parts of the country and introducing new programs to meet the industry’s requirements. As a result of envisioned broadening of the services into Petrochemicals, the name of the institute represents the expanded area of activities, programmes and services to broader petrochemical industry as per the vision document 2024.
