Sub Scheme: National Petrochemicals Awards

In pursuance of the National Policy on Petrochemicals, The Department is implementing an Award Scheme to provide incentive for meritorious innovations & inventions in various fields of petrochemicals and downstream plastic processing industry and awards are being given under the scheme since 2010-11. So far these National Awards have been given for over ten editions and the award ceremony for the 11th edition will be held shortly in August/September, 2022. The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) has been entrusted with the task of implementing the awards and overseeing various process such as advertising, receiving and scrutiny of applications etc.

The 10th Award for technology innovations were given in twelve categories and a sum of Rs. 3 Lakhs each for Winners and 1 lakh each for runners-up was awarded. The funds for the scheme which were earlier under the umbrella scheme of the New Schemes of Petrochemical have now been merged with the CPDS from 2018-19. The Scheme guidelines were revised before initiating the procedure for the 11th edition of the awards. Further the awards ceremony for the 11th awards will be held on 27th September, 2022.

Every year applications are invited and an Expert Committee is constituted to scrutinize the applications so received and prospective nominees are recommended which is then vetted by the Prize Awards Committee that finally recommends the names of those chosen for the awards. The final list is approved by the Secretary (C&PC) and the awards are given away by the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers at a public function.
